Winterwaves - Surfing holidays
in Andalusia / Spain
Just a ten minute
drive away from your accommodation is a wave, that on its
day can claim to be one of the best of its kind on the European
mainland!
Still overlooked by many travelling surfers, this
particular stretch of Spain's Atlantic coastline is
very lightly surfed. Which means minimal crowds! Owing
to the regions physical geography the area around
Conil is where the waves are at. Tarifa on the other
hand (50kms South) is a windsurfers paradise!
We have a fantasticsurf school that operates in both Conil and El Palmar,
depending on the conditions of the waves, the wind
and the weather. With BSA & GSF qualified surfing
instructors and fully qualified beach lifeguards the
surf school is a safe and professional environment
in which to learn the amazing sport of surfing.
The beauty of this particular area lies within the diversity
of the coastline. From mellow or powerful beachbreaks to
long walled up reef and point breaks, this stretch of coast
has it all! The majority of the swell received in this part
of Spain is ground swell.
Normally well ordered and super powerful! these swells come
out of nowhere (providing you haven't checked on the Internet!)
within a day the surf can build by four feet and last for weeks
on end.
The crowd factor is also a massive plus
about this region of Spain. With the increase of ' Localism
' becoming
an unpleasant factor in destinations such as the Canaries
and some parts
of Spain, the lack of crowds and 'heavy locals' makes this
region somewhat of a haven for foreign surfers.
The majority of locals that surf in this area come from
Malaga, Cadiz and Seville making the lineup at weekends a
little bit crowded and the weekdays almost empty! Therefore
arriving on a Sunday and leaving on a Sunday would ensure
pretty uncrowded surf.
Due to the rugged shape of the coastline, there are several
bends and twists ensuring that the majority of the time you
will be able to find a clean wave. Some breaks are offshore
on a Northerly and others are offshore on an Easterly, therefore
not only will you find variety in setups, you will be able
to have clean surf the majority of the time!
